Our first build ... and College Thoughts

YES, I'm still alive!  I can't believe it's been two years since my last post!  The post below was one I had started a while ago and never did publish it!  Better LATE than NEVER, right???

My hubby and son reluctantly agreed to build a headboard for our son's college apartment! (Hubby also informed me he would be removing HGTV permanently from our TV viewing options, along with banning Pinterest and anything else DIY related ... (Ummm, yeah ... okay, Honey.... Whatever.... a man can dream, right??)

So we printed some detailed plans we found searching the Internet for a Farmhouse bed, and finally convinced these two that my "crazy idea" WOULD turn out MUCH better than anything we could go out and purchase!! I only wanted to build the headboard though, so we had to modify ours from the plan slightly to allow for the bed frame to be bolted to the headboard.  I'm not going to describe each picture ... check it out for yourselves below!

We were VERY pleased with how it turned out!  So much so that we built him another bed for his room at home very similar to the one we built for his apartment! (And added the foot-board to the one at home!)

I know a lot of you are getting ready to send "Junior" off to college and you may be struggling (okay, who am I kidding ... you ARE struggling with it!)  I wanted to include this awesome article (click here) about Rob Lowe sending his son off to college. Good luck to each of you that are sending your kid off to college for the first time.  It's a long, quiet ride home after you drop them off and get them moved in to their new dorm and/or apartment.... HUGS!

(Sorry for the terrible photos ... these were taken a while back with my iPhone!)

Happy Friday and have a BLESSED weekend!!

I'm IN LOVE ............

SERIOUSLY IN LOVE...........
with my new EYELINER and MASCARA:))

I have been on the search forever for a GREAT waterproof eyeliner and mascara!

Yes, I'm one of THOSE people that would always put my makeup on, leave the house, and by the time I got to work would look like a raccoon!!! NOTHING ever worked:( I had actually just given up on wearing most eye makeup ...

I went to Ulta on Monday, told them I needed the BEST eyeliner and mascara they had ... because I had a funeral to attend and already had issues with keeping eye makeup on anyway ... and then add TEARS to the mix ... and I may as well not wear any eye makeup at all to this funeral!

The sales lady suggested this "Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof eyeliner" ....
I was a little apprehensive but she ASSURED me there was NO WAY it would come off.  So I bought it ....with lots of doubts since it wasn't liquid ... but I bought it anyway ... and thought, here I go... again ..... **SIGH**

Then one of the mascaras she recommended was the "Cannonball Ultra Waterproof Mascara by Urban Decay ...."

She EVEN said they advertise that you can go swimming in the OCEAN with this mascara... and it won't come off!  SAY WHAT?? We are talking about the OCEAN people!!  I thought to myself "Yeah, right, they will say ANYTHING these days to make a sale ..." but decided to go ahead and give it a try anyway.

Let me just say ... if you are like me and have spent BOO-COOS (is that even a word?) of $$$ over the years trying to find something that works ... I have FOUND your solution!!!  This STUFF IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And yes, after getting home from the funeral yesterday, I had to take my eye makeup REMOVER (dust it off because it hadn't been used in a LONG time) to actually get the eyeliner and mascara off that I had applied YESTERDAY morning!!!  And the tears flowed freely ALL DAY LONG .... Too bad my foundation and other makeup didn't hold up as well as my eyes did ... lol... oh well ... can't have it all:))

And there you have, Susan's "Makeup Tip of the Day":))

As you are all getting into the "thick" of youth hockey season now, traveling non-stop and beginning to think about how to "juggle" the upcoming Holidays with your family AND the hockey "family" holiday schedule .... AND have enough money for Christmas gifts while Junior has to have that new hockey stick NOW because his broke last weekend... AND plan on going to that EXPENSIVE ..."BUT AWESOME" Hockey Tournament (13 hours away) that is always held during the Holidays ... the craziness of this sport starts wearing on most hockey parents this time of year.  I ran across this awesome Hockey Mom Prayer poem here and couldn't help but share it:)

Enjoy .... and get a tissue if your kid has already moved on to college (like mine) or is close to ending his youth hockey career ...

My prayer for each of you is that you will stop and take the time to ENJOY this experience with your children!  It will be over before you know it!!!

My Hockey Mom Prayer
(By Nelsa Roberto)

May I find the best route to the hockey arena in rush hour traffic. May there not be any road closures, beginner drivers or other stressed out hockey parents in my path.

May The Boy have remembered all his equipment. May I hold my incredulous yell of frustration back when we're running late and he tells me that he MIGHT have left his hockey gloves on the floor back home.

May I find the grace not to scream at an opposing player who has just elbowed my son in the head.

May I find a spot in the arena that is actually under a working heater.

May I not get sick of Tim Horton's coffee, bagels, sandwiches and Timbits in the next eight months.

May I try, for once, to just enjoy the game and not get stressed out and embarrass my son by screaming in the third period "Jesus, Mary and Joseph! SKATE!!!!!!!"

May I have the right words to comfort and encourage him when he has a bad game and the exuberance to celebrate with him when he has a good one.

May I remember that he loves this freezing, time-consuming, money-sucking sport and that he is a thing of beauty when he skates.

And, most of all, may I remember that his childhood is passing all too quickly and that, one day, I will actually miss the all the time we spent in the van hustling back and forth between arenas. One day I will wish for that time back so let me hold it in my memory as long as I can because it is flying away from me, faster than my son on hockey skates.

Serendipity!

If you haven't tried Serendipity in downtown Easley on Main Street, you are MISSING out!!! AWESOME little sandwich shop!! I had their chicken salad croissant and let me tell you it was YUMMY!!! Try it out!!!

Empty-Nest!!

We are adjusting (slowly) to being empty-nesters! Having my weekends free after all these years of non-stop going during hockey and football seasons is a little unsettling!! My house is constantly in upheaval as I'm moving furniture around, painting rooms, and hanging different things on the walls... Anything to stay "busy"!!

We did go for a very LONG hike today... 2.7 miles ONE WAY on a mountain and it was brutal... So I'm thinking I need to get exercising back into my normal routine!!

I am very excited that Clemson Ice Hockey starts games this coming
Weekend!! So look out rinks, this hockeymom is ready!!

I'm very proud to be sporting around a new sticker on my car (given to me as a Mother's Day gift by my son!)

And I also wanted to show some
Pics from "move-in day"...

Hope you all have a blessed week! Thanks for stopping by:) This Hockeymoms Life is going thru adjustments, awakenings, and realizing life is way too short to sweat the small
Stuff!! Live each day to the fullest and tell the ones that mean the most how important they are to you!
